VCASS offers a unique combination of rigorous academic training and world-class training in specific arts disciplines
The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School offers a unique combination of rigorous academic training and world-class training in specific arts disciplines.
We seek to attract applications from talented students with a passion to develop their capabilities and contribute to the VCA Secondary School community.
Students are selected for dance, music or theatre arts programs through a process of competitive auditions and interview, or into the visual arts program through a portfolio review and interview.
Places in our dance, music, theatre arts and visual arts are highly sought after and students are selected on the basis not only of existing talent but also their potential to develop in their field.
Students are accepted into the dance or music program at years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 level, while visual arts and theatre arts programs are for year 11 and 12 entry only.
VCASS is a Victorian Government School. All Australian residents are eligible to audition.
Our school is hard to get into, as places are limited and we cannot take all the students we want to. During the audition, a student's potential is taken into account as well as his or her talent.
Most years we have more than 450 suitable students audition and we make around 50-60 offers.

GRADE 6 APPLICANTS
If you are a student in Grade 6, you should not put VCA Secondary School as one of your school choices when completing the regional school preference forms by your primary school. You should make sure you secure a place at your local school, as any offer from us immediately gives you preference for our school and overrides this preference order form.
You may apply via a video audition if you are an interstate student – however we do recommend that interstate students attend our auditions at school in order to become familiar with our school environment and have the opportunity to showcase their capabilities in person alongside our other applicants.
The school has vacancies for up to 20 international students (above the defined 220 'local' places for dance and music). Students may apply via a video audition and will be subject to the same rigorous talent-based selection procedures. International tuition fees apply. There is no restriction on international places in Theatre and Visual Arts.
Please visit our international students page for more information.
