Entry to VCASS is by audition. Here’s everything you need to know to prepare and apply.
Who can apply
To apply you must be an Australian resident or an international student that is able to apply for an appropriate visa, if offered placement at the school.
Places in our dance, music, theatre arts and visual arts are highly sought after and students are selected on the basis not only of existing talent but also their potential to develop in their field.
Applicants only required to go through the department process after you receive an offer of placement at VCASS.

Select entry enrolment at VCASS
We are a select-entry Secondary School for the education and training of talented dancers, musicians, theatre and visual art students. Entry into VCASS is by audition only.
We are not a locally zoned school.
We do not offer homestay arrangements.
There is a non-refundable processing fee of $100.00 which applies to all applications.
The school has vacancies for up to 20 international students.
Requirements for international students
- At VCASS international students must be offered a place prior to registering with the Department of Education. Please follow the online application process.
- If you are offered a place, you must be registered as an international student within the Department of Education. Here is the link to this application form: International Student Standard Application Form.

- We only accept international students who are living in Melbourne with a parent or guardian.
- We do not offer homestay.
- There is a non-refundable processing fee of $100.00 which applies to all applications.

We only accept entry into the following years for each program:

How it works
Apply online
Assemble all required documents:
- A small photo (headshot or full body, JPEG format).
- A copy of your Semester Two school report from the previous year.
- A Student Statement (approx 200-300 words) explaining why you would like to attend VCASS.
- All international and interstate applicants who cannot attend onsight auditions are required to submit a video along with their online application.
Onsite audition
All international Dance applicants will be invited to attend a live onsite audition.
Music, Visual Arts and Theatre Arts applicants may also be invited onsite, after the panel has reviewed their online video and application.
If you are unable to make the onsite audition, a virtual meet can be arranged with the panel.
The audition is a crucial part of the select-entry process, assessing your talent and potential to develop in the field.
Outcome and offers
Following your audition, you will receive an email notifying you of your outcome. If successful, you will be asked to provide documentation to confirm your age and year level. If unsuccessful, you are welcome to audition again in the future.
Important: Please note that the audition outcome is final and not subject to appeal, and the school does not provide feedback to applicants regarding their audition.

Application information
you can apply if…
You are an Australian resident or an international student who can obtain an appropriate visa.
You are a student applying for entry into Year 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 for the Music or Dance programs.
You are a current Year 10 student applying for entry into Year 11 for the Theatre Arts or Visual Arts programs.
You understand that VCASS is a select-entry secondary school and entry is by audition only.
Application checklist
Complete the online application form and pay the non-refundable $100 processing fee.
Assemble a small photo (JPEG format), a copy of your Semester Two report from the previous year, and a student statement explaining why you would like to attend VCASS.
Record a single, continuous, unedited audition video in MP4 format. This video must include a spoken introduction with your name, current year level, the stream you are applying for, and a brief summary about yourself.
The video should also contain specific demonstrations of your skills as outlined in the program-specific requirements. Please note that Dance applicants do not need a video unless they are an international student.
Upload your video to your online application and submit it.
