Celebrating Lunar New Year at VCASS
Academic

Our school community recently came together to celebrate Lunar New Year, a festival observed across many Asian cultures. Students Sola and Yuri reminded us that the celebration is about far more than decorations – it represents renewal, reflection, family and hope for the year ahead.
Lunar New Year follows the lunar calendar, with this year marking the Year of the Horse, symbolising energy, strength and determination. Red decorations throughout the school reflected traditions of good luck, happiness and positive energy.
At VCASS, celebrating Lunar New Year is an important way to honour the diverse cultures within our community and share meaningful traditions together.
A highlight of the assembly was a special performance by acclaimed martial artist Chris Xu, who demonstrated Shaolin Kung Fu routines, including Shaolin Tongbei Fist and Shaolin Yinshou Staff. His performance showcased strength, agility and the balance of mind and body. Students also had the opportunity to join Chris on stage and partake in some moves and experience Shalin Kung Fu themselves.
We were also delighted to enjoy two student performances. Kate (Year 11) and Hannah (Year 10) performed a beautiful piano and vocal piece, followed by Kate and Annie Wang (Year 11), who presented the Chinese music piece Horse Racing on piano and cello.
We also thank our Visual Art Captains, Liv and Angie, for organising the creation of Year of the Horse posters displayed around the school.
We wish everyone health, happiness and success in the Year of the Horse.
