We are told to tell the truth, in life and work. As actors, we are told to make it believable. But we lie and we are lied to – for all kinds of reasons. As children, we are told lies in the form of both magical tales and cautionary tales. We tell lies to protect others and to protect ourselves, as well as to deceive for our own ends. We live in a world of AI technology, conspiracy theories, and fake news. Who do we believe and why? And what happens when we discover that what we thought was true is a fact a lie?

As part of their VCE Drama studies, year 12 students have worked in small ensembles to devise their own performances exploring the concept of Truth and Lies. The program features four original ensemble performances.
